Throwing in the Towel

For the past 30 years, I have heard many academics confidently assert two things about the Bible.

1.  It  conflicts with scientific evidence; and

2.  It is full of contradictions.

Persons who challenged these assertions were rarely given an opportunity to honestly discuss their concerns with these academics, but rather, had their opinions derisively dismissed.

Approximately 10 years ago, I felt that I had sufficient confidence in the breadth and depth of my Biblical and scientific knowledge to investigate the common assertions.  They did not stand up to rigorous scrutiny.

Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religious leaders consider themselves to be entrusted with knowledge of God’s truth as recorded in their principal religious texts.  However, what is most appalling is that such religious leaders, with limited scientific knowledge, have simply accepted the academics’ assertions in order to avoid being ridiculed for their beliefs.  Worse still, they teach their converts to accept the conflicting academics’ opinions, despite being aware of Jesus’ commandment:

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. (Mark 9:42)

I hereby issue an open challenge for anyone with claims of Biblical contradictions with itself and with scientific evidence to present them for discussion and scrutiny here.

 Regards,

Grenville

It was rather the early scientific findings contradicts on God’s declaration.

Now ,with better telescopes, equipments and tested data confirms that God’s declarations are true and proven right .Example,in Job,that the earth is hanged from nothing, now the earth is hanging by invisible gravitational force. That the earth is round,it was declared in Job and in Psalms that the earth have circular or spherical shape. In Job,the the beauty of the earth is like a beautifully colored garment, now the earth is really astoundingly beautiful .

God says the universe is wearingout like a garment, now the universe is proven that it is decaying as it ages.God says that He stretch the heavens, now the universe is proven expanding or stretching. As seen by Hubble and Eistein using the early telescope, the universe is moving away or inflating or expanding in tremendous speed. They postulated the red-shift and blue shift behavior of the planets or galaxies, not a steady state as predicted before by Einstein. So God’s declaration are proven right and true today.

Before there were no scientific observation or discovery to give explanation of God’s declaration. Now, all God’s declaration are all proven right and true. So we can declare that truly that the God of Abraham, God of Isaac and God of Israel is a true God, God that is all powerful, God that is all knowing, God is merciful. God that can do all things, and declarations He proclaimed are true, truthful and reliable and whatever He declares will truly come to pass as exactly and detailed it seems. It will come to pass. so all things, all thoughts, all command, all ordinances written are true and will happen..Praise be the Name of God of Abraham, God of Isaac and Israel!!

  2. Hi Arnold:

I should distinguish between honest academics and those who sacrifice their intellectual honesty for their political agendas. I shall refer to the latter as political academics

When pressed for an explanation, political academics have justified their dismissive attitude by assuming that the Bible simply states that “God did it”. However, even a cursory review of the Bible will reveal that this assumption, upon which the entirety of their derision is based, is not true.

The Bible does not simply state that “God did it” as such academics claim, but rather, it describes in some detail how, where, when, and in what sequence creation occurred. Therefore, it is relatively easy to determine whether the detailed Biblical account explains the abounding physical evidence, or not. I have found that it does, and will happily discuss this issue with those who hold a contrary opinion.

  3. What about Noahs flood that could not cover the whole world.

  4. Hi Anon:

The Bible describes a worldwide flood that covered the entire earth and covered every mountain. When this description was ridiculed by politically driven academics, many theologians capitulated and decided that only a localized area was flooded. However, the Bible clearly and repeatedly claims that the whole earth was covered, including every mountain. Therefore, the Bible either provides an accurate description of a historical event, or it does not. Let us honestly examine the evidence.

God told Noah that it would rain for 40 days and nights.

For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” (Genesis 7:4)

The most intense 12 hour and 48 hour rainfall intensity events ever recorded occurred in 1966 during hurricane Denise. A record 1.144 m fell in 12 hours and 1.825 m fell over the next 24 hours. Maintaining this intensity on a global scale for 40 days and nights results in a water depth of between 72 m to 91.52 m.

The Bible stated that all mountains were covered by approximately 6.8 m (22.5 ft) of water.

And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered. (Genesis 7:19-20)

The highest mountain on earth is 8.848 km, which is significantly larger than a maximum of 91.52 m water depth from the rainfall event. Therefore, where did this additional water come from and where did it go?

One possibility is that God magically made it rain at the required intensity, and then caused the storm water to magically disappear, because He is all powerful. This is a view advanced by academics in order to ridicule their opponents. However, let us examine how God says that it was done. God notes that water came from rainfall and underground fountains.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:11-12)

Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. (Genesis 8:1-2)

There is groundwater in shallow aquifers; however, that may only add approximately 80 m. Therefore, where is this extra water?

In 1989, the Kola Superdeep Manhole reached a depth of 12.26 km. One of the most surprising findings was ground water located between 5 and 10 km below the surface. The water is believed to come from greater depths underground and trapped by a layer of impervious rock, which would need to be broken up to allow the water to reach the surface.

Therefore, the Biblical description explains the currently observed physical evidence.

  5. How about where the bible says that the disciples were all together in one Accord?
Everyone knows that Honda cars were not yet invented, … and even if they were, that many scruffy fishermen etc could not fit in one together… ?

    EXPLAIN DAT….

  6. Hi BushT:

Let us examine the verse using your assumption “… and even if they were (invented) …”.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” (Acts 2:1)

So they were WITH the Honda not IN it :)
